Why would a church need a performance license

The Religious Service Exemption (RSE) in U.S. copyright law allows churches to perform copyrighted music during religious services without paying royalties.  However, this exemption does not cover any music played or performed outside of worship services. If your church plays or performs copyrighted music outside of services, you need a church performance license.
